Working with neon has always intrigued and challenged me in many ways.
Neon is a noble gas, collected and purified from the air we breath. I carefully take this invisible gas and ladle it into my blown glass tubing and with a little math and added electricity; it will glow in colors.
Glowing is just the icing on the cake though, as most of my work lies in the designing and creating of this glass container. Glass is fragile, so this container I’ve so lovingly produced, needs support for its presentation. Each piece has different support requirements, so working with other mediums like metal, wood or ceramics are all part of neon art. This challenges me everyday but keeps me invigorated and inspired and I’m amazed at how my imagination creates the art then solves the presentation issues.
It’s that colorful glow though, that pulls on my desire to work with gas and glass and I will enthusiastically work for days towards that reward of applying electricity to my art.
