For me, painting is an active meditation – be it exuberant expression or ethereal imagery – my inner vision and imagination informs my work. Music, sound, color, pattern, and dance make their way into every painting.
Indoors, music sets the tone for feelings I want to explore. Latino music evokes dancers, roosters, fireworks, laughter and passionate lovers. Ethereal music brings forth a stream of colors from my inner space that pulse and shift, taking me into moments of intense focus.
Outdoors, the white noise of silence and incessant movement are the music. A rushing river, thunder, chattering squirrels, rustling leaves – combined with shifts in the light, temperature and air create a subtle orchestra.
I am fascinated with the expression that rises out of the emptiness – the space between the words, sounds, notes, or strokes of the paintbrush.
My paintings invite the viewer to consider that what is real and true exists in those spaces and therefore must also be illusive.
