Artist Statement

I moved to the Wood River Valley in 1972 after spending 3 years studying at California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, CA. I soon found myself painting signs and designing logos for local businesses. I then branched off into architectural metal, with my first custom fire screen in 1974. This became a successful business for the next 43 years.

As a designer of practical objects, I try to make them function well and be pleasing to the eye. I have also developed a line of small copper repousse’ female torsos with forged steel frames. I call this the Venus series. They have hammered copper base relief female torsos with forged steel frames.

The copper is perfectly suited for the subject matter, as it is a warm metal that lends itself to the soft shapes of the female form. I continue to produce functional items like fire screens, chandeliers, coffee tables, but my heart is in metal sculpture.
