I think of myself as a symbolist, as the objects I choose to paint have engaged a visceral connection to me. As if writing in a diary, my paintings are visual translations and re-creations of a moment of perception, a memory, an emotional encounter. They are reminders or messages to myself that every thought creates form. Painting gives me the opportunity to be present, to listen, to perceive, to be startled or awakened into the “here and now”. I value the process as it exposes and explores emotions and thoughts that deserve recognition and resolution.
My intentions with a painting or a series of them, are to seek a resolution with permission to discard. To discard allows change. Change inevitably leads to growth.
